4.29.06/03:01 and mother 3 has landed Also, I'm pretty excited at the thought of graduating. That's not to say it's a sure thing. I had two finals this week I had to do pretty well on to pass the classes, so I can't be sure until I see the actual grades. That being said, let's hope I pass said classes. The reason I'm so skeptical is because Pitt has done everything in its power to make graduating a monumental hassle, from the last-minute 'graduation application' to the 'capstone project' to all the other nonsense of the last few weeks.
Oh yeah, it's today. The drink is actually just cranberry juice. So it goes. I woke up at 2am and coughed up about a pint of mucous, so I hope I feel better by the time it starts. I was going to make jello shots, but decided not to because we all have to get up early to go to Oakland for convocations and brunches and church and all that. Instead, there are big bottles of red wine and sake for the interested.
Mother 3? More like mother-freaking-SWEET-3. Here's a shout out to all my fellow importers who just couldn't wait for it to debut here in the states in English, if it does. I still think they should port it to SNES, because that would be the coolest freaking thing ever. So far, I understand about 60 percent of the dialogue, and most of the plot points. As far as characters go, they're far more complex than EB's. I'm seriously considering importing that Shigesato Itoi bass fishing game.
Seriously. Thinking about it.
And Jesse came home for the week. Woo hoo to that. I've been friends with that kid since the beginning. Since I was 5. Since I was totally into Mario in an obscene way. Let's just say that Halloween costume got far more use than it should have. Probably it's a good thing it doesn't still fit me. Maybe I'll be Alucard this year for Halloween... 4.23.06/21:17 a few small, good things
[jobe's physiology] essay
I'm completely obsessed with Jobe the Robot. This is the first of 3 or 4 short essays detailing his physical make-up, the history of his people, and how he came to be on Earth. If you're confused before reading this, just see how confused you are afterward.
Gabi + EarthBound = Awesome. 4.18.06/00:48 russian fairy tales
[fifty-seven ivans] fairy tale
Check out these sweet pictures of our son, Cinnamon the Bear. He's already starred in his own major motion picture which has grossed an estimated ten trillion dollars.
Graduation. Two weeks. Will I make it? Will we all survive the drama? Who will pay my student loans? Tune in next time for our program's thrilling conclusion.
4.5.06/20:52 a novel idea
Confusing? Well, I will clarify. One factor pair for 144 is 36, 4. So if you read every 36 pages, (36, 72, 108, 144) that will be a complete story unto itself. Same with every 4 pages, every 2 pages, every 24 pages, and so on.
It will be a difficult project, with many tiny difficulties. For example, page 144 will have to be a definitive ending for 16 different storylines, and a story in itself. Page 72 will have to work with 12 storylines, and the story will have to make sense as its own story if you read, say, every page or every other page.
It's NOT like a choose-your-own-adventure book, because in those you can make conscious decisions throughout to influence the ending. The only choice you'd make here is which factor to use as your base. Another difficulty will be that the paragraphs won't be able to be split between pages, unless it's a situation where the paragraph breaks will make sense with multiple breaks. That would be interesting, too, though.
The logistics of this are ridiculous. For example, depending which factor you choose, the novel will have 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 16, 18, 24, 36, 48, 72, or 144 pages. I'm thinking I will need to buy some index cards to map this out. I'm going to start with the shortest storyline and work my way up to the longest one. Maybe it will be a series of mini-stories. Also, I don't know whether to have one protagonist or several interchangeable ones whose scenes happen to different people depending on which storyline you read.
Of course, the defining idea for this to work will be that one can just read the whole thing normally and have no idea this is possible. And how do I market this? Do I tell people this is something you can do, or do I leave that for people to figure out only 12 years after it comes out so that it's a novel viewed in retrospect as great? Many questions.
Also, if someone else has already done this, please tell me. 4.1.06/19:30 the end of an era
There was a reason for having that nostalgic experience, and it's a sad one. Now that I'm graduating from college, it's time to become an adult and stop playing around. What it means is that there will be no more peachycomics.com.
Sadness.
Another reason is that I have to renew my lock on the domain next month and I can't afford it, and if I go to Japan it will be hard to post anyway.
It's been a lot of fun ranting to you guys, and I sincerely hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have. This site has meant a great deal to me and if any of you got anything good out of it, then it was a complete success. Once my time runs out with the company who runs the site, this page will probably become some sort of search ad-type thing along with the corpses of other expired websites.
Until that happens, I suggest you take a final look around. Listen to some songs, read some comics, heck, even read a few short stories. My only regrets are the projects I never got to finish, like the Japanese Dictionary and the Daikon Warrior game, and about a dozen other things I can't quite remember off the top of my head.
Just be sure to lock up when you're finished. |
