japanese dictionary project
This is the home page of the Japanese Dictionary Project. On this page you can click on the letters and get lists of Japanese words starting with said letter. My goal is to create definitions and kanji readings for all of the words I've learned so far. Since this includes literally dozens of words, this should be quite an undertaking.
Where possible, I tried to phrase these definitions in my own words, but in some cases there is really only one word that constitutes the best definition of a Japanese word (i.e. hon = book, and while book has other synonyms in English like 'tome', other words might not communicate the same feeling).
My main sources are my Japanese textbooks (Japanese the Spoken Language Parts 1-3, Japanese the Written Language Parts 1 and 2, and Genki II), books about the Japanese Language, and of course real live Japanese people who are kind enough to teach me new words and correct my usage of words I've bungled in truly embarrassing ways.
With a project with this much information, there are sure to be some mistakes and I encourage you to point them out if and when you run across them.
