7.27.06/05:28  let's kung fu

Yeah?  I didn't think it was very funny when it happened.  What happened?  I got tagged by some punk kid who looked like he just came from the DMV with a shiny new license.  Not that he wasn't civil about it, it just pisses me off that I have to go through the whole rigmarole of getting my car fixed and talking to police and insurance people, etc.

You'll notice there is no hubcap, it was removed against its will, poor car, poor, poor car.  *Tear*

So here is the scenario:  I'm taking Mrs. Sakai to the library because her car wouldn't start.  We are coming right off the Sewickley Bridge, straight onto Broad Street, and this kid pulls off the side of the road (from the parking lane) right into my rear-right quarter panel.

Did the insurance swap, neither of us was drunk or uninsured or anything that I know of, so hopefully it will be pretty straightforward.  I demand a rental car with a CD player!

On the game front, I made a pretty sweet new dungeon, and scripted a rough version of a Teleport spell to make getting around a little easier.  I doubt it will be the kind of thing that accumulates places as you get to them, so it will likely come later in the game.  Hmmmm....

And, finally, phase 2 of the job search started this week.  I won't get into the specifics, but it's a lot more guerilla-style than phase 1 was.

My guerilla face-->

7.23.06/08:18  the modus operandi of the 危ない三人

Mainly it involves danger, women, foreign intrigue, and copious amounts of the bad brew.  You know, these last few months I've been so caught up in this cycle of disappointment and the hope of redemption that I've lost sight of what's really important: the power.

Oh yeah, and I guess I have some Geneva pictures.  It's amazing how fixated me and my family are on this rickety dump.  But I mean, where else can you get a Tilt-A-Whirl, Eddie's Grill cheeseburgers, Skee-ball, nudie cards, giant water slides, a beach, Soul Calibur II, and DDR in such a concentrated area?  Nowhere, bitches.

I discovered something amazing at the Bonanza shooting gallery.  It's a place where you pay 50 cents to shoot rifles at these targets to trigger animatronic events, like a piano player or a dancing frog or a jumping can.  I discovered that taking a picture of it makes the WHOLE F-ING ROOM dance.  Since it's triggered by light, the flash triggers them all.

7.17.06/17:50  this one's for my peoples

Geneva-on-the-lake, Ohio.  Leaving tonight, probably be gone 'til around Thursday, so don't expect an update until around then.  Don't know how good the cell reception is there, but past experience indicates it's not very.  What else?

Found that old Lufia II rom, pleased to discover the save files still intact at level 46, as that game is quite the beast, what with the puzzles and difficult monsters and all.  Also bought Lufia GBA off e-bay, brand new.  Lots of good times playing that.

And did some finding of old games.  Thinking of getting a SNES to play them again.  Really wish Baker didn't steal my Chrono Trigger in 11th grade, but nothing to do about that.  Also miss Lufia I.  Have two controllers, time to rediscover some classics?  Perhaps.

Lots of good times as a kid up at the lake, playing lots of video games.  Maybe now not so much now that I'm all grown up, we shall see.  Always love an adventure, always have.

7.12.06/04:17  daikonic

It's one of those summer nights where the heat sinks to wherever you're lying and the rain pounds the roof like knuckle children pound the face of a backroom starlet.  That's a fancy way of saying that I can't sleep.  Add that to the fact that my dad thinks I'm selling illegal substances--I'm not--and that the family is going on a cruise next month without me, and it turns out to be not such a great week.

But with Geneva-on-the-lake on the menu for next week, there's a chance that things will improve.  And check out these amazing screen shots from the Daikon Warrior game.  If there's anything that can cheer me up, that might be it.

The ship is fully functional, and the new battle backdrops turned out better than I anticipated.  In addition to all that, I've had some good ideas for things in other areas of the game, like skillsets for some of the characters and exciting secret things to add.  What I need is a big chunk of time to just sit down and pound these into existence, a chance to get my creativeness flowing, a chance to stop using double entendres...

7.7.06/18:13  hontou ni toronto?

And that's the end of the last interview.  All that's left now is to wait.  And Toronto is a beautiful city, really a good place to visit.  They've got a seafood boat and lots of skyscrapers and shopping malls and strip clubs and sex shops and all kinds of neat stuff right downtown.

I saw this sticker on a gas pump at the station in the service plaza on I-90/W outside of Buffalo.  Neato.

The drive there wasn't bad, the ride back was full of traffic and drama, including an exploded taxi cab.  After seeing a big mushroom cloud of smoke, I knew I had to get my camera ready.  A tough shot, especially while driving.  No problems at the border either way, even when, on the way back, the guy looked in my trunk.  He didn't even say anything about the bottle-rocket launcher back there.

As for my big drinking binge, it didn't really happen. I ended up going to Daily Sushi and eating gyoza and drinking a small bottle of sake.  It was still really good, though.  My biggest regret is that my remote was broken, effectively preventing me from ordering any of the 'quality adult programming' advertised on the little placard on top of the TV.  For the rest of the Toronto pics, click here.

7.4.06/23:08  some kind of national something

And I'm not even drunk.  Hopefully I'll have better luck finding something exciting to do tomorrow night in the Toronto.  If you're missing June, you can find it in the archives.  This may be the shortest post ever.

Also, I don't know if any of you noticed amid all the revelry and patriotism, but WW3 started today and life as you know it is going to change dramatically very soon.

If you need to visualize this North Korea thing as an analogy, picture a homeless person trying to mug you with a broken, unloaded gun.  I'd be more worried about China, the sleeping dragon.  They're pretty tough and nobody seems to notice...
