nicotine fist - song downloads - contact - jordanese glossary 7.31.03/01:51 everybody sucks but me She killed me today, with just one word.
She called me a REPUBLICAN. I thought I would drop dead on the spot...if she wasn't so cute I might have left her there.
Yesterday I actually got a credit card offer addressed to Peachy Comics...for all the big business purchases that this site requires. Think of what I could do with a 50,000 dollar credit limit...I could live my dream. I could hire models and turn this into a very dirty website...So I did what I knew I must, I took the credit card offer from the day before and put it in the postage-paid envelope. Let them get some junk for once.
I drank the Ra-mu-ne today. It was really good. I recommend it highly.
As for the rest of the day: my car is in need of some love, I bought a book by Haruki Murakami, and did more college paperwork online.
Later today I will do more site updates, and tomorrow is RABBIT RABBIT DAY!!!
7.29.03/22.58 suburban depression For the first time in a long time, I am depressed. Not in one of those pathetic, helpless sort of ways--a frustrated, hopeless one.
I took a walk through my neighbourhood tonight, and now I realize how truly pointless this place is. I see people rotting in front of their televisions, hear parents yelling at children through open windows. This is what I have to aspire to.
At the age where all I really want to do is copulate and start another franchise of writhing little consumers, I don't think I can take it.
For my whole life I have been searching for something, some truth, something beautiful to justify my existence. Not love, something...eternal and divine. That's not something that you will find by investing all your time in something as temporary and fleeting as a beautiful woman.
This society is seeping into me from all angles. I thought I could fight it, maybe break away somehow. But I am stuck. Eventually I will end up in some monotonous job making a corporation richer during my days and spend my evenings being advertised at, cultivating brand loyalty and striving for shinier, newer, and faster possessions.
Money is the most pathetic thing ever. I don't want it. When I have some, I try to get rid of it as quickly as possible. I don't mean large sums, because we all want to live comfortably, but none of us really end up in a position to keep what we get. It goes to mortgages, car payments, rent, utilities. It goes.
I settle for amusements, distractions, things to make me forget that I am not really getting any closer to my dreams. What is the best possible thing I could ever hope to be? A rock star? Famous? Rich? Forget all that. The end result is always the same...chained to a house and a stupid television, staring blankly into a screen of some kind for seven hours a day.
Me? I create things, I'm a creative entity. Genetically, I have NO choice but to waste my time ranting on paper and word processors, hoping to one day craft a living from all my doodles and detached stories.
But I digress.
7.29.03/18:42 nearly wasted day I just want to get all my stupid college stuff done, but there are mountains of paperwork and red tape in my path.
Stupid college.
There are new links on the links page. Go there.
Enjoy.
Now.
Yes, now.
7.28.03/23:41 i like steak n' shake I don't really know what to say.
I had some ideas like an hour ago...but I didn't have access to a computer to type them out.
So now I am speechless.
Tomorrow I have to go to Oakland to settle some of my debts. I might be a streetcorner musician for a bit, don't know.
In case you were wondering about the incredible length of this webpage, at the end of the month it is going to be archived and I am going to start from the top again.
But that is not for three more days.
7.27.03/08:01 and the radioman laughs because... The winner of yet another impromptu poetry contest is...Megan!!! (by default, since she was the only entrant)
here is her untitled poem:
if this is sin,
truly
i greet it with
the utmost delight
let me be
counted among those
who sinned
wholeheartedly
i do not regret
each touch of
skin
felt like heaven
to me
each thrust of
the hips
trumpeted like
an angels' choir
so if this is
sin, truly
please give it
to me again
and i will sink
into the lowest levels
of the hottest
hells with you
I wish someone would write ME something like that. That's it for today, kids.
7.26.03/18:54 sanguine kind of rhymes with penguin Inspiration struck me today.
Actually, it was more like a rock that got shot out of the bottom of the lawnmower and hit me in the leg, but my point is that I actually got some ideas for the hardest part of my book I am trying to write.
I think it's funny that grass comes in blades, and you use a blade to cut it. Blades cutting blades.
And you ask, "What is the hardest thing to write?"
Monologues. One of my characters has to do a comic monologue on stage in front of a crowd of people. Comedy is the hardest thing to write, because you are relying not on your skills as a writer, but on your knowledge of people. You have to know what will make them laugh, and there is nothing worse than being wrong and having a joke fall flat on its face.
I put up lyrics for two more songs today, one of which is already on the song downloads page.
As an added bonus, there are two new rhyming poems. I am working on more short stories, but getting them written is like pulling teeth...out of a pit bull's mouth.
This morning I learned how to play one of my favourite songs ever, 'Man of Constant Sorrow' by the Soggy Bottom Boys. I know some of you purists out there will point out that the song isn't REALLY from the movie and that it is nearly one hundred years old, but the film version is the one I like best and I think 'Soggy Bottom Boys' is likely one of the cleverest names for a band ever.
The thing is, I had been trying to learn how to play this song forever and everyone kept saying "you have to use Joni Mitchells tuning" which is a time-consuming way to tune your guitar. But honestly, the transition from F to Bb to C isn't really difficult enough to justify retuning.
7.25.03/17:50 jesus hates me I got a call last night around midnight informing me that I was "scheduled" to work.
I was already in my pajamas, so I wasn't a very happy camper.
Then today I was lucky enough to get my first semester bill AND my car insurance bill, each of which are substantially more than they were last time.
I don't feel much like doing updates right now.
7.24.03/02:26 3 valiant soldiers died today Besides working on a new song, I did not do very much today.
However, I did do some massive site updates. I put up a bunch of new poems in the rhyming poems section, and if you look to the top of your screen you can see that I have made a glossary of terms for all of the strange words you might run across as you stumble around this site.
7.22.03/15:38 proud member of the kaataa-san fan club I woke up at 10:30 today, and I called that girl, but wouldn't you know, she never called me back.
Figures.
So yesterday I was waiting for the bus and there was this really cute girl from Brazil. We were talking about keeping money in those little film containers and I told her about how I collect coins, and she gave me some Brazilian change.
I'd only seen her once before yesterday. Wish I'd gotten her name...
*Sigh*
And now I go back to Ohio to work on the Kalentis Project.
7.21.03/02:35 violated by customs officers O Canada
When I got to work Saturday night, some of my co-workers offered to take me to Canada with them. Being the spontaneous road trip connoisseur that I am, I of course went. We left at 0700 for the primitive aboriginal land.
When we got there, we were the random car that got searched and they went through all our stuff. (They didn't search us though, which leaves me a little confused, I mean, what if I had an uzi under my shirt or something?)
We went on an extensive tour of Niagra Falls, seeing it from nearly every possible angle:
1. the cliffs overlooking them 2. the tunnels which go under them and have viewing portals 3. and of course, the Maid of the Mist boat
I think the only way I could have seen more of Niagra Falls would have been to go over the edge in a barrel.
My biggest regret is that I didn't have my camera, because I saw about a hundred perfect photo opportunities.
There were hundreds and hundreds of Nihonzin there and I picked up a few snippets of conversation while walking around. Lots of pretty asian girls...
Actually, pretty much all the girls on this trip were relatively gorgeous, even the ones in the toll booths. Damn. I wish I would have known I was going before I went to work so I could have dressed a little nicer.
Sunday marks my first ever legal drinking experience. I kept it simple, just two Long Island Iced Teas. It was also my first time ever gambling in a casino. I must say, it was not as exciting as I had thought it might be.
Overall, I would have to say I had fun. I am definitely going to go back, and take lots of pictures. If any of you are interested in going to Canada in the next month, let me know. (Jen H, you are EXCLUDED from this invitation.)
I could probably write a bit more about this, but I have to wake up at the crack of 9 for tutoring.
7.19.03/08:37 the world is my pearly oyster It was a good trip. My sister and dad really seem to like their new house, and I got to see Mrs. Nahre and Nolan and a few other Shelbyville natives whom I haven't seen in quite a while.
I got some sweet socks, and I also think I have poison ivy on my ankle from going to the Hayes Arboretum in Richmond. I recently learned that an Arboretum is like a zoo for trees. At least they save money on cages...
And before it slips my mind, I just have to mention that the Glen Miller Park is the neatest place in the whole world.
By the way, there are more pictures from my trip here, and this morning I updated the rhyming poems, the non-rhyming poems, and the digital pictures sections.
Today I am going to sleep for a bit and perhaps take a crack at the tab for this Dispatch song.
7.18.03/21:39 go now, you are forgiven I have finally returned home.
Updates will come tomorrow.
I am reticent, oh yes, I am reticent.
7.14.03/01:49 setting sail Tomorrow I am leaving for Indiana. I will be there until late Thursday, and there will be no updates. On the off-chance I never return, I shall leave you all with this poem:
nepenthe
she is my nepenthe my neplusultra love good times with her come seriatim
7.13.03/12:02 boku no messi wa kiree desu nee Today I am the very definition of productivity. I have already done laundry, cleaned the house, AND cut the grass. But that's not all, I also made new business cards. Pretty good for someone who's been awake for 20 hours, eh?
And now I am going to see a movie about pirate ghosts...or is it ghost pirates? Better ask Korn...
7.12.03/19:35 arrrrgh! People kept calling ALL DAY...there was no sleep to be had. I'd turn the phone off, but you never know when that one special person might call to completely change your day. Definitely don't want to seep through that.
I spent about an hour trying to learn how to play 'Clumsy' by Our Lady Peace. I think it might be the most complex thing ever. I will have to give it another try tomorrow, because now I am off to hang out with the Colledge clan.
7.11.03/18:22 three point one four I woke up at the crack of 6pm today, and it was wonderful. I got yet ANOTHER credit card offer in the mail today, but it was okay because I did what a very wise person told me to do: I took other junk mail, and put it in the free return envelope and sent it back to them.
As you can see, there is a new page for you to visit and enjoy at the top of the screen, a master listing of song downloads. There are two very new songs up there, including one I wrote yesterday.
I was very excited to get an email from this cute girl from Ohio whom I haven't seen in the longest time. I got an error message when I tried to write back to her, though.
I am off to work...feel free to e-mail me there with anything insightful.
7.11.03/00:30 mad nihongo shakedowns If you were there, you know exactly what I mean. If not, you must be confused.
So through experimentation, I have learned that the page displays in a distorted manner on some browsers. I am trying to find a way to fix this, but it will take some time.
I am still working on putting more songs on here, and I even recorded a new one this morning. Soon it will be on the site. I think I may even make a downloads page with all the songs on it to make accessing them easier.
7.10.03/02:27 welcome to the city of dis The Nicotine Fist page has been updated with album covers and discographies. Look for downloadable songs to come soon.
I ate dinner with my mom today, and was reminded why I never visit. The food was good, though.
Next week I am making an excursion to Shelbyville. For three days I will be making the rounds...if my car doesn't blow up on the way.
7.9.03/00:59 TV makes you stupd I sneezed. I was at the bus stop when it happened, and there were 7 other people.
Not ONE of them said 'bless you'.
This, I think, is what is wrong with our society today.
So in other news, you can download a few sample songs on the musical musings page.
Today I learned how to play 'Beer' by Reel Big Fish. What a cool song.
There is so much I want to do to the website, but I suddenly lack the motivation.
7.7.03/00:01 sealab is awesome And then there was only one.
Only one link left to go until Peachy Comics reaches its initial state of functionality.
I am dauntless in my pursuit of perfection.
And there is a new short story...
7.6.03/13:58 oh yes, i am reticent So yes, the questions page is up, as is a temporary Nicotine Fist page which I plan to expand on. It will be a while before I finish what I have planned for the comics page, though.
I would have gotten more done today, but I was stranded in the cave until 10am. It is time to do some recharging methinks.
7.5.03/19:27 printed on 100% recycled websites Today I made a shocking musical discovery that exposes me for the amateur I really am. Db is the same chord as C#. Hmmm.....
New pages go up tomorrow morning.
I promise.
7.4.03/08:50 i...need...sleep Much to my chagrin, my big ol' "chart o' chords" does not include C#. You would think that if they were making a chart with no less than 128 chords, they would at least have every KEY. That's what you get when you buy things from Discount City I guess. Sam Walton must have had some personal vendetta against C#.
So there is a new rant about vegetarians in the short stories section.
I really wanted to finish the comic strips, stupid questions, and miscellaneous sections today, but prior engagements prevent me from having time to do so. It may not even happen until Monday.
I can sense your disappointment from here.
7.3.03/16:54 that evil orange mountain dew I swear they put a near-lethal amount of caffeine in that stuff.
Anyhow, all the links in the lyrics and poems section should work now, and if not...it will have to wait until tomorrow.
I'm off to see a movie and then to work. Time and a half rocks! I wonder how they celebrate Independence Day in Britain.
Probably they don't...
7.2.03/19:15 dumb as a sack of wet hats As of today, I am officially a Japanese major.
Yokatta.
I think this link adequately sums up my feelings on the situation: http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~thoureau/japanese.html
7.1.03/17:26 functionality increase Rabbit rabbit!
Shortly, if not now, the links and Decadent Duplicity pages should be fully functional. I am not sure how much else I will get done today, as I have to take grandma to the airport at 5am...yeeowch.
After that I will probably sleep until I go to Ohio to visit Matt and Leigh Ann.
6.30.03/02:20 more update information The short stories, musical musings, and digital pictures buttons are working now. Also, I have redone the logo to make it sleeker and better and sexier. Ooh la la...
The buttons should look 'pressed down' when your mouse arrow is over the button. I haven't fixed all of the buttons on the site to do this yet, but most of them should.
6.29.03/05:15 update information Much progress is being made on the button-making and template creation front. Also...e-mail is working. Hooray. You can email any queries to jbaugher@peachycomics.com.
6.28.03/04:25 something peachy this way comes Today is the beginning of a new endeavour known as peachycomics.com. I am already having fun trying to figure out the intricacies of this page-building program, and the next week promises to be lots of fun as I try to get this junk to work the way I want it to.
Look for things like buttons and functioning hyperlinks to start appearing sometime around Monday.
