6.30.06/01:45 new york, new york? To tell you the truth, I'm not a big fan of the big city. Most New Yorkers seem to be loud, pushy pricks out to get your money. That being said, I still had a pretty decent time. Gabi and I took a road trip to NJ to stay with her friend Karina. Thanks to Karina and her parents for putting us up and putting up with us for a few days.
I think the interviews went pretty well, but I can't make any promises. Forgetting my umbrella in the interview room the second day and having the recruiter bring it out to me won't win me any extra points, I'm sure, but there's nothing I can do about that.
And then we drove to Philly for a few hours before heading back to the relative sanctity of the Pgh.
You may wonder if, in the course of our driving through NE Pennsylvania and Philly during all this rain and flood madness, we saw any of the flooding that's making such a wave in the media...we didn't.
I should mention that Nate was good enough to send me a copy of Bad Touch last week, and his artwork is freaking awesome as always. Maybe someday we'll get a comic done...
Perhaps during this July thing I will do more updates? And here's what you can expect this month: a short story that doubles as my rendition of a trashy romance novel, a Daikon Warrior theme song, and hopefully more and better pictures. 6.20.06/01:55 daikon madness
But that's not the most important thing. The most important thing is that I got the PC version of Pirates! today at Best Buy. I've not tried it out yet, but we'll see how awesome it is after this post is done.
I've got a kind of demo going of the game, something like Clyde's opening sequence from his house to the first batch of monsters to the first town. Don't get me wrong, much more than that has been done, but this is what I have that's functional and playable so far. For those of you who don't care at all about this nonsense: sorry. Here are some questions and answers.
What can I expect from this game? 10+ hours of classic RPG'ing in the vein of FFIV and FFVI, satirizing many other games.
Will there be secret characters and dungeons and weapons and risqué content? Mmmmmaybe. Maybe a little.
Will it be a few characters against a background of default stuff that came with the program? Not even a little. EVERYTHING has been made by me from the battle sprites to the monsters to the attacks to the items to the soundtrack. I might use a few sound effects from the program, though.
Well, what about the coding? You got me. I didn't do any of that. Some of the event scripting is pretty tricky, though, and I'm doing that.
What is the point of all this? To show off, maybe, but really just to have some fun.
How can I be a beta tester? Email me. jbaugher@rocketmail.com

And check out my sweet framed pieces of paper. Each one cost over 20, 000 of dollars. Fear not, according to this link I read on Mosha's profile, Peak Oil is going to end the American way of life within a few years anyway, and at some point during the riots I'm going to default on my student loans.
Before that happens, you should all think about buying guns and massive quantities of Spaghetti-O's and beer just in case. Better to be drunk than sorry. Actually, it's probably better sometimes to be drunk than a lot of things. Like sober.
If any of you live in Toronto or New York City and want to hang out, I may be visiting your city at some point in the next few weeks. You can reach me on AIM using my screen name DamienDiablos. You can even message me just to complain about the lack of posts these past few months, which may have something to do with my increasing (but frequent) rate of disappointing sexual performances.
As if you didn't have enough to think about with the end of the world fast approaching. 6.10.06/08:14 quick post Since I'm planning to go to IN after work tomorrow morning, this will just be a quick post in case I can't update while I'm out there. The plot of the game and lots of new enemies, weapons and attacks are really coming together nicely, and I've got some ideas for some political cartoons and things like that. Should be good times.
some weapons in the game: -cat launcher -knifechuks -double scythe -wine bottle -rolling pin -sock full of quarters -nail gun
Aside from working for the last few nights and attempting to sleep in between, there hasn't been much else going on. The internet tells me that for my body weight and height I'm anorexic, which kind of freaks me out, so I've been compensating by eating everything in sight.
And for some good news, it seems like lots of people have been discovering my song 'let's go sailing' and downloading it. Without getting into hyperbolic terms, I'd go so far as to say it's probably the greatest song ever written, but I'll let you be the judge of that. Also, more songs on the music page. 6.5.06/05:03 daikon warrior status update
First town chipset -sewer chipset/map -roof chipset/map -inside building chipset Quinn Smash attack Jezz Slash attack Clyde Psychic Attacks (80%) Nissa Magic Attacks (70%) D. Meister attacks (30%)
Things that need done: NPC sprites Dungeon chipsets Battle backgrounds Game soundtrack Dialogue Boxes
And there's more that still needs to be done, but I can't think of it off the top of my head right now. If you're looking for something from May, it's been archived. My goal for this game is to create all the graphics myself. When it's done, I want no trace of the original components of the default program to linger aside from most of the sound effects, since those would be hard to make on my own and I lack the proper equipment or the motivation to do them.
It's been a pretty productive weekend. I finished The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and now I need something new to start reading. Any suggestions? E-mail them to me at jbaugher@rocketmail.com. I forgot to say 'rabbit rabbit,' so if I have any serious bad luck I'll know why...
