3.30.05/23:46 ever onward through space and time This post will be a very short one, devoted only to explaining that I'm not going to do a longer one and that another comic strip has been posted for your viewing enjoyment. Click on the link below to check it out.
[daikon warrior #4] clyde learns magic
3.29.05/23:47 a perfect mechanism
[freshly made bios] on the comics page
Yeah, go check 'em out. I wanted to do another comic today, but I just remembered one hour ago that I have a presentation due tomorrow and most of my focus has to go towards homework instead of comics. Damn college. All it ever does is stifle my creative spark.
So tomorrow, I will try to have a new comic done by midnight. If I don't, you can contact the manager and have him reprimand me. If that doesn't work, you can always just send a letter to corporate and they will have a representative from HR come and have a little chat with me and tell me to 'think outside the box' and 'start shifting paradigms' and other slogans filled with empty meaning. That was probably the dumbest rant I've ever done. If anything, it serves as a demonstration of how the end of this semester is completely draining me.
Actually, it shouldn't be that difficult. It's all about associations and commonalities. Is that even a word? If it's not, it definitely should be. It also doubles as a clue for said astute observers. 3.28.05/23:21 she told me she's a genius In perfect English to boot. And all I can do is agree. To compliment yourself in such a way is very Nihonjin-rashkunai, but to disagree with such a statement is certain death. Seriously, man. Certain death.
[daikon warrior #3] 2-dimensional personalities
Yeah, that's right. THREE. Where were you for the second one? You missed it. And also the comics page has been re-done and it leads to comics again. Well, not AGAIN, since there was never a previous time. But I think you get the idea. And also some other stuff I haven't done yet.
These last few days have gone by fairly quickly. I came home from Easter dinner yesterday and slept for exactly 14.5 blissful hours. I wish I could say the same thing about tonight, but I have to wake up early for an appointment that is sure to be a dis-appointment. Get it? Heh. It's a pun. Not a funny pun, though. Damn. 3.27.05/09:32 easter and DAIKON WARRIOR #1 I don't know how to make it more obvious than that. To see the very first issue, click on either the giant logo above or the link below. I have about 12 drafts done for comic strips, so you should be seeing the next ones fairly soon, as well as maybe a bio page for the characters and the re-pimping-outing of the comic strip page to accommodate the actualization of some comics.
[daikon warrior #1] the first strip
Feedback? Do you actually want to see more of these comics? Do you feel like I ripped off your idea for the super ultimate best comic ever w/o hyperbole? You shouldn't unless you're Cervantes. If you happen to be Cervantes, you've been dead for 200 years. Send it all to jbaugher@rocketmail.com. 3.26.05/20:33 the birth of an epic hero
I had this super-great idea for a comic. Well, I think it's super great, it's really all about what your idea of super-great consists of. If you like video games, you may enjoy it. It will be called Daikon Warrior, and the hero, Clyde Sidewright, is a boy on a mission to fight evil. I'm still hammering out the character design, but I want it to have an 8-bit feel to it. I'd like to thank whoever made that freaking sweet font that is oh-so-precisely right. 3.22.05/21:53 art imitating life imitating art
Now that I think about it, that girl looked more like a Korean (the eyes are larger and closer together and the skin is a shade paler in Korean girls.) Anyway, probably you're wondering about these pictures, so I guess I should explain. There's this picture of Akutagawa Ryanosuke on the back of Kappa that I thought looked a lot like Hunter S. Thompson, despite being taken 80 years ago. Can you name the third pseudo-prominent literary figure pictured to the left of this paragraph? 3.22.05/08:39 nicotiiiine fist! yeah!!
[dealt out] new page
My favorite track is probably 'Puppet Strings,' because of the sweet double-vocal tracks. If I had to pick a second favorite song it would be 'Connect the Dots.' Crazy Matt's favorite is probably 'Progeny,' which is all about the crazed-goat sucking Chupacabra. There's also a gem of a song about everyone's favorite half-dragon half-man actually-all-dragon Trogdor. Try and figure out which one that is....
Probably in about 4 weeks we're going to begin a serious effort to track a new album with our rockin' new recording equipment that includes this ridiculously expensive microphone I got for my birthday. Sweet. Also, if Crazy Matt would ever get his schedule fixed so he doesn't work from 12-8pm that'd help too. Either way, the return of the Fist is inevitable! 3.20.05/23:25 life and death Every time I turn on the television (mistake, that one) or the Internet, or whatever, I'm bombarded with news about this life-support chick. They're missing the point: she's braindead. Now, I know it's a medical term and hard for us normal folks to comprehend, but it's also Latin, so let's try to take it apart and understand it. Its root 'brain,' is followed by the word 'dead,' meaning 'the brain is dead.'
Death has only one defining quality: an unchanging state. Meaning that if we wait for ten years, or fifteen years, there's not going to be a reversion to brainlife. So whether you pull the damn tube or not, it's irrelevant. She can't feel it. You can put her on strings and dance her about or blast her out of a cannon, she won't know the difference. SHE CAN'T FEEL IT. Her BRAIN is DEAD. Braindead. Latin.
These political bastards are missing the point as well, as they always do. When we give someone a lethal injection, we sterilize the spot with a cotton swab beforehand (so they don't suddenly die of infection?). The same way someone can be on 'death row' and 'suicide watch' at the same time (why not save the time and money and just let them do it themselves...?). These are people who can be pro-life AND pro-death.
I'm just saying it's hypocritical to say, "Our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life," when you were the killing-est governor in Texas (or US history), a man who let a fellow mentally retarded person get executed on his watch. Sorry. That was definitely a rant and I apologize profusely. Tomorrow there will be pictures and a movie and much love to make up for my bad mood. 3.17.05/21:01 seijin no patoriku hi omedetou gozaru! You'd probably say gozaimasu instead, but that's just too long for the subject line, desu ne? Aside from green beer and my sister's Science Fair (guess who did most of her project...), I got some site stuff done today as well. I put all the movies on their own page so you can access them more easily, and I completely re-did the 'miscellaneous' page to include site content that doesn't fall into the other categories, like it should've done all along if I were maintaining it. Enjoy!
Also, in honor of the holidays, I've gone through all the black-background pages (like this one) and made the text font green and therefore more festive. Let's all celebrate the holiday created solely so the Pope can get drunk and Leprechauns can get the recognition they deserve.
3.16.05/03:49 around the world, around the world
These two pictures are something from the Genki book I just can't get over. Along with the line about Godzilla destroying the city and that thing about Jerry Garcia.
Today was quite an informative day. Aubrey informed me that Mitsui Sensei is still hanging around Pitt. Awesome. I will have to hit her up for more details next time I see her. Also, I was awakened from a nap today by my kanojo, calling to tell me she got my package but is waiting two more days to open it to not spoil the surprise.
She told me when I go to Cairns, Australia to visit her she wants to go rafting. Rafting! Did I not tell her I don't know how to swim? I won't survive this trip, my friends. Peachycomics will end sometime around July with my aquatic death. Grandma suggested just telling her no. Ha! As if I could. In reality, I will do whatever Maria tells me to do.
3.14.05/21:39 it's a small world, after all
I recognize that random girl because she violated me. I have scary memories of a long drive to the middle of nowhere and a dark room and being interrupted by a tiny sibling and escaping and her never calling me again. Or emailing or IM or texting.
Bitch.
3.13.05/19:29 keeping the faith
So I think I might just become a Landover Baptist. This Pastor Deacon Fred guy seems to have it all figured out. The Landover Baptists believe that the conservatives of today are all a bunch of sissy pansy liberals who only believe bits and pieces of the Bible, and so these Landover folks take the entire thing out of context. Great stuff. I'd recommend taking the Bible Sex Quiz Part 3 or whatever they're up to by now. It's all very poignant and very clever. Big ups to the Pastor.
I'm a man who's big into faith. In the debate of science vs. religion, there are two things you have to consider: God doesn't make your hot pockets (science does) and the Indians. When we came to this country, the Indians had lots of faith in their gods, and we had lots of faith in our guns. It's easy to see who had the better judgment.

3.10.05/22:46 jamming with jason
[jason barker plays villa lobos]
Each file's about 10 MB. Other than that it's just been lots of GTA and caffeine. I didn't get all the editing done on the book like I wanted to, and I still haven't picked fall classes. I guess I work better with tons of other things going on to distract me, like some papers I have to write and other end-of-the-semester nonsense. I plan to put up another dictionary page or two later this week and maybe some grammar.
[jason barker plays piazzola] .mov file 3.8.05/18:46 pillows and eels There's this feeling of melancholy present in the music of The Eels, particularly 'Beautiful Freak.' I find it in a lot of songs by The Pillows too, especially the tracks they did for the FLCL soundtrack. It's really tough to explain, but I'd have to define it as a type of spiritual dissonance. Like someone telling you they'd like everything to be okay, but it's just not going to happen that way. 3.8.05/02:15 spring break, sans spring
[japanese 'C' words] new entries
With this whole week of free time, you'd think I'd get something useful accomplished...and I did. More words in the dictionary. This freaking dictionary is going to take forever. Probably it was a bad idea to even start, but I'm in too deep now to give it up.
So I think I'm going to spend the rest of the week editing and doing the re-write of Twisting the Knife and maybe I'll even get a few more chapters of the sequel Through the Sandglass written as well. In between all that I'm still trying to get the bp/fp/dp/ep Buffalo from the Misappropriation mission on San Andreas. I start towing it and then it disappears. Any helpful ideas about that? E-mail. jbaugher@peachycomics.com. 3.3.05/23:03 if you should find if you should find you've lost your way and won't be home again, then don't forget the things we've seen or places that we've been
if you should find you've found a home and won't be back to play i won't be mad if you move on, if you decide to stay
if i could die before i wake before i fall asleep i'd count the days 'til i see you instead of counting sheep 3.1.05/22:38 spotlight on peanut butter
[japanese 'B' words] new entries
Yeah, to make up for my week of slacking I did the b's. I fixed a few of the broken links and the page titles for the completed dictionary pages as well. I also moved the February posts to the archives, because it is, after all, Rabbit Rabbit Day yet again. Not that it helps me any, but what can you do?
But it's not just Rabbit Rabbit day, it's also a boku to kanojo no tame ni tokubetsu na hi. Why? Tyoudo rokkagetsu mae ni deatta kara da! If that's not a cause for celebration, I don't know what is. I think that merits a phone call in addition to the exciting package I sent today [insured] for the low, low price of 20 bucks. Postage sucks.
I was experimenting with charging my digital camera battery using a charger I got in Japan. It works just as well in the US as it does in Japan, if you like fires. Actually, I'm not sure of the fire status of using appliances from one place in the other. Everything seemed to work okay when I took it there and so far the vice-versatized version of that seems okay as well. Stay tuned for more wacky adventures. |
