There's not much symbolism in these lyrics.  I think the feeling of depression and frustration is expressed in a pretty straightforward manner.  All I really wanted to say, as the title implies, is that you can become trapped in a series of days where nothing new happens and the events of each day are interchangeable with the events of the day after or the day before.

As for the reference to wrist-slashing, that's just a side-effect of working in a hospital with patients who keep failing in their attempts to commit suicide.  If you're going to slash your wrists, make sure to go down the vein LENGTHWISE instead of across if you want to have a better shot at success.
